A Prayer for When You Are Angry
Anger is one of the few emotions church culture rarely makes room for, yet the Psalms are full of it. Being furious and being faithful are not opposites. What matters is where the anger goes. This prayer brings it to the one place strong enough to hold it.
God, I am angry, and I am done pretending I am not. You have heard worse from your own people, so I am going to say it plainly.
This was not right. What happened, what was said, what was taken. You saw all of it, and you are a God of justice, so I am handing you the case.
Keep this fire from burning the people around me, and from burning me. I do not want to become the thing that hurt me.
Search me. If any of this anger is mine to repent of, show me. And what I cannot resolve tonight, I leave in your hands, because your justice is better than my revenge. Amen.

Why this matters
Ephesians says in your anger do not sin, which quietly admits that anger itself is not the sin. The question is what it does next. Anger prayed becomes lament and a plea for justice. Anger swallowed becomes bitterness. Anger unleashed becomes damage. Prayer is the safest room in the house for it.

Is it a sin to be angry at God?
Feeling anger toward God is human, and he already knows about it. Job, Jeremiah and David all voiced it directly, and God kept their words in the Bible. Honest anger brought to God is relationship. Silent resentment is distance.
How do I let go of anger through prayer?
Name the offense specifically, hand the justice of it to God as Romans 12:19 instructs, and repeat the handoff as often as the anger returns. Release is usually a practice, not a moment.
